Smell can be a very powerful tool in your coffee drinking process. When I open a bag of sealed coffee beans I like to get my nose inside the opening. When I brew a pourover I like to get my nose close to the soaked grounds. When I pour my coffee into my mug I like to smell the turbulence of the coffee hitting the ceramic mug. When the coffee has cooled I like to smell the calmness of the drink. Smelling gives your brain a head start (brain pun) which gives you clues about what the coffee may taste like. Ok, now that you’ve smelled it, it’s time to drink it.
